2017 KHLF Golf Invitational & Fundraiser


Join us on Monday, September 11th at Glen Abbey Golf Club for the KHLF 7th Annual Golf Invitational & Fundraiser. From the fairway or in the bunker, you'll enjoy a great day on the links with proceeds supporting KHLF's programs, Upopolis, Uknow, Upedia and Umind.

Following the round, all golfers, tournament partners and sponsors are invited to gather at the club house for cocktails and dinner hosted by the KHLF. You'll also have a chance to try your luck winning raffle prizes and silent auction items. 

Kids' Health Links Foundation is infinitely thankful for the generous support of all the individuals, small businesses and corporations who support us. We thank you  and the kids and teens across Canada who use Upopolis every day thank you.

Upopolis Launch at Montreal Children's Hospital

July 21, 2017, Montreal Children’s paediatric patients join the Upopolis network, an innovative social media platform that helps young patients safely and securely access youth-friendly medical content, and stay connected with other patients as well as their families and friends while undergoing care. 

There is a launch event key stakeholders from Montreal Children's Hospital, Montreal Children's Foundation, and Kids' Health Links Foundation. Following formal remarks, there are demos of the Upopolis program for attendees including staff, patients and families.

Kids’ Health Links Foundation has a singular focus on children & youth at the centre of its programs. It has created social technology to help chronically ill and hospitalized youth cope with their stress, isolation and loneliness while in medical care. It has also developed technology platforms for child life specialists and child and youth mental health professionals, enabling them to connect, learn and share best practices, and access tools and resources to help them provide better care to the populations they serve.

Upopolis (www.upopolis.com) is a private, secure and trusted online peer-support network, developed partnership with TELUS. This first-of-its-kind web-platform is implemented, hosted, maintained, and supported by KHLF and its partners for use in Canadian children’s hospitals and other pediatric health care institutions. Typical users of Upopolis are chronically ill children and teens with longer-term hospital stays (Ex. Patients with cancer, Crohn’s and colitis, diabetes, kidney disease requiring repeat dialysis). Since it’s first installation at McMaster McMaster Children’s Hospital in December 2007, Uppolis has helped alleviate the stress, isolation and disconnection of more than 3,000 pediatric patients suffering from often debilitating illness. Today, Upopolis can be found in 24 children’s hospitals and pediatric health care organizations across the country. It includes over 20 diagnosis-specific ‘spaces’ for youth to connect in, and houses youth-friendly medical content covering more than 130 diagnosis. Upopolis also has engaging and informative videos for youth to watch such as “Exploring the Operating Room”, “The Truth About PICC Lines” and many more.

Upedia (www.upedia.ca) is an online peer-reviewed psychosocial resource library and professional forum developed for child life specialists and those affiliated with child life. It houses over 1,300 peer-reviewed tools and resources from more than 80 contributing health care organizations. There are 1,000+ child life specialists registered on the site, representing over 20% of the profession in North America, from over 140 national and international pediatric institutions. The Upedia Webinar Series, has presented 16 webinars to-date, to 1,800 participants.

Umind (www.umind.ca) is Canada’s premiere online community built to foster a national community of practice that transcends provincial boundaries, including educational and mentoring opportunities within the network of children’s mental health treatment providers. It has a registered membership of over 1,030 child and youth mental health professionals from 290 organizations across Canada. It houses over 1000 practical tools and resources for professionals, contributed by 160 child and youth mental health agencies from coast-to-coast. The Umind Webinar Series has presented over 15 webinars to date to more than 1000 participants.

Stollery Children's Hospital launches Upopolis, becoming the first healthcare organization in Alberta to join this dynamic social network that connects hospitalized and chronically ill youth across Canada to one another, family and friends. The event features patients who will share why they enjoy using Upopolis, as well as presentations by  Dr. Verna Yia, CEO Alberta Children’s Health and Basile Papaevangelou, Chairman, Founder, Kids’ Health Links Foundation. There will also be a cheque presentation from Upopolis' technology partner Telus and its Community Investment Board to the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation.
